Google Ads for Local Service Businesses: A Practical Campaign Checklist

Local service businesses often rely on people nearby who are ready to call, book, or request a quote. A useful Google Ads campaign connects that local intent to the services you offer, the areas you can serve, and an enquiry path your team can manage. Use this checklist before launching or reviewing a campaign.

1. Define the work and locations you want

List your priority services, the jobs you can take on, and the locations you realistically cover. A business with a physical shop can target a relevant catchment around that location; a mobile or home-service business should use its true service area. Avoid promoting areas you cannot serve reliably.

2. Match campaigns to customer intent

Think about what a searcher needs at that moment. A customer looking for an urgent repair may need different information from someone comparing a planned installation or requesting a detailed quote. Organise services and ad messages so the landing page answers the specific search clearly.

3. Make the landing page useful on mobile

  • State the service and the area you cover.
  • Show accurate contact details, hours, and appointment or quote steps.
  • Make phone and form options easy to find.
  • Explain what happens after someone enquires.
  • Keep the page focused on the advertised service.

4. Decide what counts as a meaningful enquiry

A page view or button click may not mean a customer contacted you. Where the website and consent settings allow, measure completed forms, useful calls, or booking requests separately. Review lead quality and follow-up outcomes where you have reliable data. Platform conversion counts are not automatically the same as booked jobs or sales.

5. Review spend against capacity

Set a budget you can sustain and make sure it matches the work your team can fulfil. Search demand, competition, seasonality, service margins, landing-page quality, and lead response all affect performance. No checklist can guarantee a certain number of leads or customers.

6. Improve from what you learn

Review search terms, location coverage, ad relevance, enquiry quality, and tracking. Make changes one step at a time so you can understand what has changed. If the account has a longer history or complex setup, start with a structured audit before rebuilding campaigns.
